OUAC is the application service that processes applications to Ontario universities. It does not decide admission; universities do.
The interface, fees, and dates can change by cycle, so keep the live OUAC guide open while applying.
Before opening the application
Prepare:
- full legal name and contact information
- status and citizenship details requested by the application
- Ontario Education Number if applicable
- high-school and postsecondary history
- a professional email you check
- the exact program, campus, co-op, and subject-of-interest choices
- payment method
- dates for every supplementary application
Use a private device and save credentials in a secure password manager. Do not let an agent or friend control the only login.
Step 1: research choices outside the form
For each choice, verify:
- university and campus
- program name and code
- co-op or regular stream
- prerequisite courses and minimum grades
- historical grade range
- supplementary application
- start term
The application form is not the best place to discover what a program means.
Step 2: enter personal and academic information exactly
Match legal records. Review every school and attendance date. If academic information should be transmitted by an Ontario school, follow the current OUAC and school instructions rather than manually inventing a duplicate record.
Applicants from other provinces, countries, or postsecondary institutions may have different transcript procedures.
Step 3: add and verify program choices
Check similar names carefully. A program can exist at multiple campuses or have separate co-op and non-co-op choices.
Before submission, read the choice list aloud with another person:
- university
- campus
- degree/program
- co-op option
- entry term
Step 4: review declarations and pay
Read the declarations. Submit and keep the confirmation and payment record. If the application is not successfully paid or transmitted, filling fields is not enough.
Step 5: activate university applicant portals
Universities usually send instructions after receiving the application. Each portal can contain:
- missing-document notices
- supplementary forms
- interview links
- offer conditions
- residence or scholarship tasks
- decisions
Create a tracker with columns for account activation, documents, supplements, deadlines, and status.
Step 6: monitor grades and transcripts
OUAC has separate transcript instructions depending on where and when you studied. Confirm who sends each record and whether updated grades arrive automatically.
Never assume “my school handles it” without checking the portal status.
Step 7: manage changes carefully
OUAC allows certain changes under current rules, but changing or deleting choices can affect consideration, fees, or deadlines. Read the live instructions before editing and keep confirmation.
Security and scam warning
Use official OUAC and university domains. Be cautious with anyone promising guaranteed admission, requesting your password, or charging to perform steps you can verify directly.
Do I need to rank my choices strategically?
OUAC asks applicants to order choices, but universities explain whether and how they use that information. Do not rely on rumours. Read the current OUAC guidance and ask the specific university if its policy is unclear.
Is submitting OUAC the same as completing the application?
Not always. Programs may require supplementary applications, portfolios, auditions, interviews, documents, or language results through separate systems.
What if my transcript looks wrong?
Contact the school or institution responsible for the record and follow OUAC’s correction guidance. Do not wait until the final document deadline.
