Math101Ontario Grade 8 Mathematics
A current Ontario Grade 8 pathway preparing students for de-streamed Grade 9 through number, algebra, data, spatial, and financial reasoning.
Precise definition
Ontario Grade 8 mathematics is the final year of the 2020 elementary curriculum before MTH1W. Its strands develop rational numbers and scientific notation, proportional and percent reasoning, algebra and linear relationships, coding, data and probability, spatial sense, and financial literacy alongside mathematical processes.
Notation and mathematical language
A linear relation has constant first differences under equal input steps and can be represented $y=mx+b$, where $m$ is rate of change and $b$ initial value. Scientific notation is $a\times10^n$ with $1\le|a|<10$. Pythagorean reasoning applies only to right triangles.

Interpretation and application
Grade 8 mathematics supports Grade 9 algebra, geometry, data, coding, and finance. A fitted linear relation is an approximation unless the context defines an exact tariff; data association alone is not causal proof.
